Hany has been a colorist since 2006. His journey began in the Film Institute in Cairo, Egypt. With Film Editing as his major, he began with the analog medium (strips of film processed by hand) and later moved on to the digital mode.

Having moved to the digital modes, the process and production became easier. What could be done earlier on rare, large, expensive machines over hours and days, can now be done on a cellphone. The capacity of our tools has increased phenomenally. With technology comes ease, and increased expectations for more nuance, details and life-like perfection. With technology comes ease, and increased expectations for more nuance, details and life-like perfection.

In film school, Hany had to watch and study a massive amount of films. To study editing also meant to study direction, photography, and other allied subjects. Hany personally enjoys action films like the James Bond series and Mission Impossible for their technicality. To feed his creative soul Hany likes to listen to jazz music, and lately songs from Indian cinema whose tunes he has been enjoying. Hany loves to travel and says,

His interest in architecture takes him to South Bombay often where he seems to have drawn some keen similarities to the city of Alexandria in Egypt. Having arrived at Bombay in early 2020 to work at NUBE, Hany has been fascinated by the vibrant colour palette in the city and country which reflects in its film industry, Bollywood. Bollywood suprasses all social and physical lines across the country to entertain over a billion people, its scale, reach and magnificence excites and challenges him. He observes that the films in India are an integral part of the societal fabric and provide relief, hope, entertainment and delight to its population.

Hany’s dream is to create a masterpiece, a large-scale film with no limitations, where the color is the real hero. He cites the example of Bladerunner from Hollywood, which is an outstanding example of visual effects. He has observed that the ideas and visions are expanding and that NUBE is open to aesthetic languages that are more global. He wants the opportunity to really explore and push his creative power to create a film whose essence, the soul, is its colours, and not just another detail. That is his dream project.
